Picture update

Ok, here are some pictures of the newest addition! Gretta is doing great, had a wonderful first night home, and is truly a nursing champ. Mostly all she does is nurse and sleep- we're wondering when she will start having some awake time with us! The pictures are in backwards order, sorry... we'll get more up as they come! Gretta is looking more and more like Emma Kate did as a newborn- some pictures they look identical, other than Gretta having a lot more hair and it looks darker!!! We'll have to see what she ends up looking like... haven't seen enough of her eyes to really know for sure what direction they might go in, they look pretty dark!

New Sister!

Emma now has her new sister Gretta Ruth Sazonov. She can even say her name. Ms. Gretta came to us at 5:48 pm on October 26, 2010. She was 6 lb and 7 oz. and 20.25 inches long. She is nursing well and Emma really enjoys watching her. Pictures to come and maybe a blog name change?

Wow, time got away from me... I meant to post these pictures last weekend!! Things have been going well here, we've been enjoying some wonderful fall weather. In case you hadn't heard yet, we did have a pretty awful scare with Emma Kate's breathing mid-week... she had picked up a cold Greg and I had, (the second one in about 6 weeks!) and was breathing a little louder than normal. After a very brief crying spell, she was having significant difficulty getting air in and out, and although she improved some when she settled for bed, we were awakened in the middle of the night by a few scary sounding coughs. After that, she went right back to sleep, but every time she stirred the littlest bit, she sounded almost like she was gasping. We decided it was better to make a middle-of-the-night run to the ER while she was calm and sleepy rather than risk her getting up in the morning and getting riled up and having to really panic about getting her looked at fast. She was awesome for the exams, and even allowed us to give her a cool mist treatment with a mask near her face for 45 minutes. She was significantly better when at the ER, but she also was not very active which I think really helped. They put her on steroids for inflammation and gave us an albuterol inhaler for future urgent use (although how to get a 2yo to use an inhaler appropriately is beyond me...). She was significantly better the following day, and by this weekend she is back to her baseline as far as her normal breathing and noise. This scare has prompted us to go ahead and schedule at Wake Forest again to get her scoped, and if everything looks normal there, we'll get a consult with their pulmonary specialist so we can finally get a diagnosis and know how to proceed. There's nothing scarier than worrying that your child can't breathe and not having any medication on hand to administer or not even knowing what course of action would be best. Hopefully we'll get some answers this time. We're scheduled to go November 8 unless the doctor feels he needs to squeeze us into the schedule sooner. We should know by Monday or Tuesday of this week. Hopefully things in my belly remain quiet if we go sooner, or get things underway so we'll have a little time under our belts with a newborn before having to travel! And surely there's a possibility of a NC born baby too... :/

Anyway, things are going well again, and we're relieved to have pulled through ok. We've had a lot of fun lately and wanted to share some pictures!

We had an awesome year for our apple tree despite it having fire blight for the second year in a row, and we've got more apples than we have time (or canning jars!) for. Emma Kate has been such a helper with the processing- she takes the peels from the peeler and piles them up in a bowl to give to the steers!
Mommy was doing an overhaul on the house, and Emma Kate followed suit and decided she needed to clean her potties as well. Not that they've seen much action, but she did pee a little bit in one just a couple days ago! I'm sure it was sort of a fluke again, but the reward music must have made her cut it off pretty quickly- about 5 minutes later she was "airing out" upstairs and made a much bigger puddle on the floor... oh well!

Last weekend we made a trip to Sinkland Farms in Riner (a neighboring town) for their annual pumpkin festival. It was a lot of fun although a pretty windy day. Emma Kate enjoyed seeing all the animals on display until a turkey mistook her finger for a worm and tried to eat it. That didn't go over very well... She had fun in the toddler maze and wandering around all the various crazy pumpkins they had. She picked out the one she wanted, and I guess maybe sometime this week we'll get it carved up!

Oh, and apparently the pumpkin she picked out makes a really comfortable seat too! :)

What?!?!?!

Are we seriously trying to drop the afternoon nap??? IMPOSSIBLE I SAY!!! About 2 weeks ago, just for one day, Emma sat in her crib for an hour just talking, singing, thumping, etc. But never fell asleep. Then she went right back to her normal, easy-go-to -sleep naps again. Two days ago she talked/sang/thumped for 30 minutes then called for Mama- she had a dirty diaper so I changed it, but was unable to put her back down again. Yesterday she talked/sang/thumped for 30 minutes or so then started fussing, so I got her up and laid down with her which is usually a sure-thing to get her to go back to sleep. But it didn't happen! Now today we had happy quiet time for *maybe* 20 minutes before she started fussing, and it doesn't look like there's an end in sight. She's not allowed to drop this nap so soon before the baby comes! It's just not right! I know yesterday she was tired because she fell asleep in the car after like 2 minutes when I went down the road (only a 5 minute drive anyhow!). We've been outside for a few hours today playing and I thought for sure she'd be tired and nap well again... this is so hard!!!

Well, after our exciting night of thinking baby bean was coming, we had a few days to enjoy Mimi's company anyway! Nothing more happened during the rest of the week, and now nothing more through the weekend either... must have just been a freak thing, but it was just so nearly identical to how labor started with Emma Kate, I just can't believe it stopped like that! Anyway, now surely we'll be gun-shy...

After Mimi left on Saturday, we finally got motivated to process the pears from our tree... Emma Kate was a big helper peeling the pears, and she took it upon herself to sample one as well. They actually turned out pretty nice! We managed to get them all processed, now just to plan out how to use them down the road!

We had a great time with some Hokie friends Saturday evening after the football game, and Emma Kate had a lot of fun! There were 5 other kids there, and Emma Kate enjoyed watching them, playing with the corn hole sets with them, and walking around the campground. Lots of fun! She even stayed awake for the ride home and went to bed very easily! :)

We had a lot of fun outside today (and the last few days too- it has been gorgeous weather!) and Emma Kate was getting really silly on her slide, she had so much fun, she kept running around it and doing the same silly stuff over and over. A video should be posted above if I can get it to work!

Here are some pictures from the last several days...
