6 Month Check-up

Here we are at just a couple days shy of 6 months, Emma weighs in at 12 pounds even, and 23.5 inches- in full fuss mode of course!  She's still not quite "on the charts" for percentiles, but she's following the same rate of growth as the normal curves.  She's doing well overall, and keeping us busy!  Mommy is on call this weekend, so hopefully all goes well.  We haven't had a chance to get new pictures loaded recently but will try to do better after the weekend!

Emma is ready for spring!!!

Here are some recent pictures, she's been a happy girl lately, although the last few days have been off and on fussy... we don't know for sure yet, but there may be some little teeth trying to make it out...

Jack just wanted to touch Emma... he's like that, he always wants to make sure you're right there...  But the evil eyes are a funny touch!  Emma has also decided on her own that she's ready for eating regular food- a salad was a good way to start... ha!  She has taken to gnawing on our bowls and glasses while we eat!  We've not yet started any foods, but it seems she'll be ready for it when we do start!

Shadows

Not big news but Emma and I were out today and she saw our shadows.  She liked watching the shadows from me hanging the diapers on the line also.   I don't know if that means there will be 6 more weeks of winter or not. -Daddy

Emma is really digging the "new" dog.  The seat puts her at the best height to play with Dixie.

Here is the obligatory naked baby photo.  She tinkled on our bed so the sheets were being washed.

Sorry the posts are so short but daddy is typing one-handed and wrestling with the other.

Quick update

So we had our first day with my sitter, Amanda.  We had a good time that day.  It has been really nice outside the last few days so I've gotten my Vitamin D the old fashioned way.  I have been helping feed our horses and collecting eggs at night.

I've been starting to try and crawl.  My arms are now going out in front of me and I am pumping my legs but getting no traction with my feet since they are not on the ground.  I'll get it eventually.  Sorry there aren't any pictures for this post, mommy will post some later.

Snow... Then 75 degrees!!

This is one of the huge piles of snow that got blown together just outside our back door! This was completely natural... no shoveling involved!  Daddy had to clear a path out the door two or three times- it kept getting filled right back up with snow from the wind!

Here's Daddy getting ready to clear out a path yet again...

The snow was so deep and powdery, the wind created these waves in our back field- click on the picture to see the detail- it was absolutely beautiful!

Here's another bizarre-o mountain of snow, these things were all over the place, anywhere the wind got stirred up.

Now today, it's got to be in the 70's, and this is about all that's left.  It used to be a huge mountain about half the height of the garden fence.  It piled up like that about a foot away from the actual fence, it was like a little pathway had been left around the fence!

During all that snow and cold weather, we kept the stove burning around the clock, and the house stayed pretty toasty warm.  We spread out a quilt in front of the stove for Emma to play on and practice her rolling over, she's gotten quite good at it, and likes to grab at toys in front of her when she's on her belly- tummy time isn't all that horrific any more! :)

Emma's been especially helpful recently, she loves to get meals together and help in the kitchen

It's the amazing STANDING BABY!! :)  She's gotten so big and strong in the past few weeks, the progress is just amazing!

The jumparoo remains one of her favorites still.  She has mastered all the toys now, spinning the sun and the lizard are her new skills.  She hasn't quite gotten the hiding tiger, but she loves it when someone else makes it come out!  We'll let everyone know as soon as Emma gets back in to the doctor and has her new stats available!

short-lived snow...

Well, we ended up getting about 11 inches of snow last weekend, and it was so powdery that the wind really blew it around into crazy big piles!  It's unbelievable that the temperature has risen so quickly, and all but the biggest piles of snow is GONE!!  It is incredibly soupy outside now... what a mess!  This weekend it's supposed to be 78-80 degrees, so we'll finally be getting outside again!  We'll get some pictures up soon, we promise!

...and we haven't yet gotten Emma in to the doctor's office...  Samantha (the Honda) was more interested in staying put these last few days...  :)

Here is mommy out trying to sled.  She ended up walking/running up the hill in front of her and going to the far corner of our property and sledding about 10 feet.  The snow was pretty deep.  We'll try again tomorrow on the trail she sled today.  Maybe it'll be packed down.
Emma trying out the Jenny Jump-Up.  She seemed to like it just fine.  She was trying to figure out how to turn around today.  We tried this a month ago and the pink seat swallowed her up.  Now, she fits so much better.

On a different note; we are getting lots of snow.  We are so far at about 3 or 4 inches and it is still snowing.  FYI-weather forecasters only said we were supposed to get about 1-3 inches total.  We will go in to town on Tuesday to get Emma another shot and weigh and measure her.  We'll be sure to post the stats as soon as we can.
