Wow, time got away from me... I meant to post these pictures last weekend!! Things have been going well here, we've been enjoying some wonderful fall weather. In case you hadn't heard yet, we did have a pretty awful scare with Emma Kate's breathing mid-week... she had picked up a cold Greg and I had, (the second one in about 6 weeks!) and was breathing a little louder than normal. After a very brief crying spell, she was having significant difficulty getting air in and out, and although she improved some when she settled for bed, we were awakened in the middle of the night by a few scary sounding coughs. After that, she went right back to sleep, but every time she stirred the littlest bit, she sounded almost like she was gasping. We decided it was better to make a middle-of-the-night run to the ER while she was calm and sleepy rather than risk her getting up in the morning and getting riled up and having to really panic about getting her looked at fast. She was awesome for the exams, and even allowed us to give her a cool mist treatment with a mask near her face for 45 minutes. She was significantly better when at the ER, but she also was not very active which I think really helped. They put her on steroids for inflammation and gave us an albuterol inhaler for future urgent use (although how to get a 2yo to use an inhaler appropriately is beyond me...). She was significantly better the following day, and by this weekend she is back to her baseline as far as her normal breathing and noise. This scare has prompted us to go ahead and schedule at Wake Forest again to get her scoped, and if everything looks normal there, we'll get a consult with their pulmonary specialist so we can finally get a diagnosis and know how to proceed. There's nothing scarier than worrying that your child can't breathe and not having any medication on hand to administer or not even knowing what course of action would be best. Hopefully we'll get some answers this time. We're scheduled to go November 8 unless the doctor feels he needs to squeeze us into the schedule sooner. We should know by Monday or Tuesday of this week. Hopefully things in my belly remain quiet if we go sooner, or get things underway so we'll have a little time under our belts with a newborn before having to travel! And surely there's a possibility of a NC born baby too... :/
Anyway, things are going well again, and we're relieved to have pulled through ok. We've had a lot of fun lately and wanted to share some pictures!
We had an awesome year for our apple tree despite it having fire blight for the second year in a row, and we've got more apples than we have time (or canning jars!) for. Emma Kate has been such a helper with the processing- she takes the peels from the peeler and piles them up in a bowl to give to the steers!
Mommy was doing an overhaul on the house, and Emma Kate followed suit and decided she needed to clean her potties as well. Not that they've seen much action, but she did pee a little bit in one just a couple days ago! I'm sure it was sort of a fluke again, but the reward music must have made her cut it off pretty quickly- about 5 minutes later she was "airing out" upstairs and made a much bigger puddle on the floor... oh well!Last weekend we made a trip to Sinkland Farms in Riner (a neighboring town) for their annual pumpkin festival. It was a lot of fun although a pretty windy day. Emma Kate enjoyed seeing all the animals on display until a turkey mistook her finger for a worm and tried to eat it. That didn't go over very well... She had fun in the toddler maze and wandering around all the various crazy pumpkins they had. She picked out the one she wanted, and I guess maybe sometime this week we'll get it carved up!
